Sunday Morning 9/27/20

This week at Lighthouse Pastor Dan will continue teaching from the Letter to the Thessalonians, chapter 4, “Living in Turbulent Times”. In this section of the letter, the Apostle Paul is giving the church at Thessalonica some very specific and practical tips for living in difficult days. Just as these written words spoke directly to this group of believers in their situation on the other side of the globe a couple of thousand years ago, God speaks directly to us through these words in these uncertain days of 2020.

Once again we will be worshipping in person at our physical building on Main Street, Hunter, NY as well as live streaming on YouTube. All are welcome to join us!

Here are some helpful links for this week’s service, and a playlist of some of our favorites songs for your personal worship. Have a blessed week!

Welcome to Sunday Church

Sunday September 20, 2020

Greetings from Lighthouse! We trust you are well. In uncertain times like these there is much we could worry about. With so much confusion and noise, who can we believe? Where is God? What can we do? Who can we trust?
We can wring our hands, toss and turn, and give up hope. Or we can turn to God and pray. There is so much to pray about! We believe that God answers prayer. He loves us and will walk with us through the storms. He is faithful and has promised never to leave us or forsake us. We are trusting God to work out His perfect plan for our world, in our nation, and in each of His children. Jesus is the Solid Rock on which we stand. He is the source of all Truth. He loves each of us, whether or not we love Him back. He came to earth for us. He died for us. For you. For me. And even for those who betrayed Him, and killed Him. And now He invites each of us to come to Him. For Love unmeasurable. For Peace unshakeable. For Hope undefeated. For Joy inexplainable. 'Let him who is thirsty come.' (Revelation 22:17)
We are looking forward to gathering together this Sunday morning at 9:30 for a time of worship in Hunter and on line. You are invited to join us! We are located on Main Street, Hunter, directly across the street from the Post Office. You can visit our YouTube live stream on our channel 'Lighthouse Bible Church Hunter NY' Below you will find some useful links for 9/20.
Have a blessed day!

God’s Mercy Is To All

Romans 11:11-24

11  I say then, Have they stumbled that they should fall? God forbid: but rather through their fall salvation is come unto the Gentiles, for to provoke them to jealousy. 12 Now if the fall of them be the riches of the world, and the diminishing of them the riches of the Gentiles; how much more their fullness? 13 For I speak to you Gentiles, inasmuch as I am the apostle of the Gentiles, I magnify mine office: 14 If by any means I may provoke to emulation them which are my flesh, and might save some of them. 15 For if the casting away of them be the reconciling of the world, what shall the receiving of them be, but life from the dead? 16 For if the firstfruit be holy, the lump is also holy: and if the root be holy, so are the branches.17 And if some of the branches be broken off, and thou, being a wild olive tree, wert graffed in among them, and with them partakest of the root and fatness of the olive tree; 18 Boast not against the branches. But if thou boast, thou bearest not the root, but the root thee. 19 Thou wilt say then, The branches were broken off, that I might be grafted in. 20 Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by faith. Be not high minded, but fear: 21 For if God spared not the natural branches, take heed lest he also spare not thee. 22 Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off. 23 And they also, if they abide not still in unbelief, shall be grafted in: for God is able to graff them in again. 24 For if thou wert cut out of the olive tree which is wild by nature, and wert graffed contrary to nature into a good olive tree: how much more shall these, which be the natural branches, be grafted into their own olive tree?

  • Israel’s fall is not permanent v.11 Acts 28:28 Be it known therefore unto you, that the salvation of God is sent unto the Gentiles, and that they will hear it.
  • Through their fall God has brought grace to Gentiles v12 Titus 2:11 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,
  • How much more grace when God restores Israel vv.12-13 Isaiah 54:8 In a little wrath I hid my face from thee for a moment; but with everlasting kindness will I have mercy on thee, saith the LORD thy Redeemer.
  • God is using Gentile believers to provoke Israel vv.14-15  1 Timothy 2:4 who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
  • Gentile believers have been grafted into God’s olive tree vv.15-20 Luke 15:24 Luke 15:24 For this son of mine was dead and is alive again! He was lost and is found!’ So they began to celebrate.
  • Warning against unbelief vv.20-22 John 15:2 He cuts off every branch in Me that bears no fruit, and every branch that does bear fruit, He prunes to make it even more fruitful
  • God is able to restore Israel vv.23-24 2 Corinthians 3:16 Nevertheless when it shall turn to the Lord, the vail shall be taken away.

The Lord is my LIGHT and my salvation. —Psalm 27:1

THE POTTER AND THE CLAYPastor’s Notes

Romans 9:19-33

19 Thou wilt say then unto me, Why doth he yet find fault? For who hath resisted his will? 20 Nay but, O man, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it, Why hast thou made me thus? 21 Hath not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump to make one vessel unto honour, and another unto dishonour? 22 What if God, willing to shew his wrath, and to make his power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath fitted to destruction: 23 And that he might make known the riches of his glory on the vessels of mercy, which he had afore prepared unto glory, 24 Even us, whom he hath called, not of the Jews only, but also of the Gentiles?25 As he saith also in Hosea:  See, I will call them my people, which were not my people; and her beloved, which was not beloved.26 And it shall come to pass, that in the place where it was said unto them, Ye are not my people; there shall they be called the children of the living God.27 Esaias also crieth concerning Israel, Though the number of the children of Israel be as the sand of the sea, a remnant shall be saved: 28 For he will finish the work, and cut it short in righteousness: because a short work will the Lord make upon the earth.29 And as Esaias said before, Except the Lord of Sabaoth had left us a seed, we had been as Sodom, and been made like unto Gomorrha.30 What shall we say then? That the Gentiles, which followed not after righteousness, have attained to righteousness, even the righteousness which is of faith. 31 But Israel, which followed after the law of righteousness, hath not attained to the law of righteousness. 32 Wherefore? Because they sought it not by faith, but as it were by the works of the law. For they stumbled at that stumblingstone;33 As it is written, Behold, I lay in Sion a stumbling stone and rock of offence: and whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.

  • Who Can resist God’s Will v 20 Job 9:12If He snatches away, who can hinder Him? Who can say to Him, ‘What are You doing?
  • God is the potter vv.20-21 Isaiah 29:16 You have turned things upside down, as if the potter were regarded as clay. Shall what is formed say to him who formed it, “He did not make me”? Can the pottery say of the potter, “He has no understanding”?
  • God endures vessels of wrath v.22 2 Peter 3:9The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
  • God bestows riches on vessels of mercy vv.23-7 Romans 2:4 Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?
  • Judgment is coming v.29-30 Isaiah 13:19 And Babylon, the jewel of the kingdoms, the glory of the pride of the Chaldeans, will be overthrown by God like Sodom and Gomorrah.
  • Righteousness is by faith not by works of the law vv. 31-32 Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9Not of works, lest any man should boast.
  • God saves the whosoevers v.33 John 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

The Lord is my LIGHT and my salvation. —Psalm 27:1
